Harley-Davidson Announces 2010 Model

At the dealer’s conference in Denver H-D released the 2010 model line up (Press Release).
The Sportster line looses the 883 Custom and gains a Nightster in Black Ice Denim, which looks blue rather than black.

A new SoftTail, the Fat Boy Lo, has been added and it looks really good. Blacked out in the style of the Dark Customs this is the meanest looking Fat Boy ever.

There is more but you can see for yourself on the H-D web site: http://www.harley-davidson.com/

Riding Solo

Pretty much all my riding in the last several months has been in groups. The groups may have been as small as two other riders or as many as twenty but there was always someone else along. I have really enjoyed it too. Red and the Power Ranger are great accomplices and each stop for gas is a chance for banter and fun; real male bonding sort of stuff. Besides that Red can always be counted on to add a little adventure or get us lost; both of which can really add to the fun.

Last weekend, I took off for a short ride that turned into a 150 mile medium ride. I did it alone...and I really enjoyed it. I had forgotten how nice it can be to ride solo.

The route and the scenery were nothing special, just a quick trip up to Lake Livingston. I didn’t bring a camera. I didn’t have a route in mind when I pulled out of the driveway other than to get 50 more miles on the Sportster and take it in for the 1000 mile service by noon. The first part of the ride was on US 59 and was somewhat tedious. In fact, it seemed no different from the days I commute in on the bike; ride, watch for idiots, dodge a tire gator. Then I turned off 59 and headed for Coldspring and something changed. It is hard to describe but it felt like a weight had been lifted.

Some combination of the warm summer sunshine, the wind in my face, the rumble of the engine and the tree-lined road conspired to, for a while at least, transport me to a time and place where the stresses and worries of life could not touch me. The weight of work worries, paying for kid’s college, health concerns, relationship worries all seemed to disappear. I think it must have shown on my face as I got some strange looks as I filled up in Coldspring and even while I was heading down the road. Maybe it was just the oddity of Buddha riding a Harley but I really think it was the smile on my face.

I couldn’t see myself but I think my smile was different. I could picture that goofy, carefree smile of a small boy stretching between my chubby cheeks. Maybe not, but I think so, because that is how I felt, carefree. It was awesome. I have always enjoyed riding and always found it relaxed me and allowed me to forget about the world for a while but I have never experienced it quite this intensely before. I hope I do again.

I think I may have to take another solo ride soon. Maybe next weekend, I don’t know...
